good evening, i'm diane dwyer. >> i'm terry mcsweeney. at at&t park today, a cold strike. not by umpires but by more than 700 concession workers leaving 41,000 fans to get their food and souvenirs from replacement workers. mayor ed lee is offering to help bring the labor dispute to an end. nbc bay area has more live from at&t with more on reaction from fans and the latest on contract negotiations. >> reporter: concession workers want to make it clear that their beef is not with the giants, it's with center plate. that's the business they work for to provide food and beverages here at at&t park.

[ chanting ] >> reporter: this is what it looked like out today's giants game against the colorado rockies. >> there's no napkins. >> reporter: this is what it looked like inside as fans tried to get their favorite food at concession stands across at&t park. >> i have never seen liennes li this at the concession booth before. >> reporter: replacement workers had to be brought in to serve food during the one-day strike. contract negotiations between the workers' union, local 2, and the giants' food and beverage subcontractor, center plate, came to a standstill on thursday. and the strike which had been authorized earlier this month of called. >> we're here for job security. we're out here for medical benefits, and we're out here for a raise. >> do you know that the average worker here works two jobs? and they make average $11,000 a year. you cannot live off $11,000. we got people in assisted housing. >> reporter: center plate issued

a statement today saying they believe the labor action by local 2 is unnecessary, unfortunate, and illegal. it goes on to say, "centerplate values our employees. that is why they are already the highest paid staff in the concession business, earning between $15 and $20 an hour. receiving full health care and other benefits for their part-time work." the giants issued a statement as well, apologizing to fans for any inconvenience and urging both parties to get back to the bargaining table so the matter can be resolved as quickly as possible. that one-day strike is over. concession workers will head back to their jobs tomorrow. another strike is possible. live in san francisco, nbc bay area news. >> kimberly, thank you. the search is on in the peninsula for an elderly woman. it's actually over tonight. 85-year-old naomi brown who suffers from alzheimer's and dementia was found in redwood city safe. she wandered away from her assisted living facility in palo alto around 10:45 this morning.

police activated the program called alert santa clara county for the city of palo alto. that program initiated a reverse 911 call and also sent text messages and emails to thousands of people who signed up. again, the 85-year-old woman was found safe tonight in redwood city. in san francisco, they're still looking for a man who disappeared after running the beta breakers race last weekend. today hundreds turned out to search for 27-year-old bo rasmussen. they focused on ocean beach, golden gate park and surrounding areas. he was last seen on sunday when he told his friends he was going to the beach. he apparently did. that's where his clothing and personal belongings were found later that day. rasmuss rasmussen's family has traveled from portland to help. >> anybody who even thinks they might have seen something, please call the number that we have and let us know. you never know when something that somebody saw that was a little out of place or a little interesting might be what we need to help find him. >> crews have been searching all

week, but still no sign of the missing man. there's another search underway in san francisco for a young man missing since tuesday. 19-year-old sean cedy last spoke to his father around 1:30 tuesday afternoon. he said he was catching the bus to the park, and the last cell phone activity actually came from baker beach. so today, volunteers searched the area around lands end. they've also searched golden gate park and lands beach. his father is worried because his son suffered a traumatic brain injury a few months ago. >> nothing like this has ever happened. he loves being at home. he's always home. comes home every day. not really a person to leave home at all. >> he's 5'5", 120 pounds, dark hair and eyes and braces on his teeth. he was last seen wearing a black and gray northface jacket, jeans, and a black splint on one wrist and arm. several department complexes in concord had to be evacuated today when a brush fire came

dangerously close. fire officials evacuated 75 people near melody and mark claire drives when the grass fire ran up a hill from the park and threatened several buildings. fanned by strong winds, the blaze spread to about ten acres before crews were able to contain it. >> it was heavy flame involvement coming. starting to impinge upon it. in addition to that, the heavy smoke conditions were coming down from concord boulevard, a quarter to half mile here down the street where the fire was. you couldn't even see the end of the street because of the heavy smoke that was down to the ground. >> no injuries have been reported. the cause is still under investigation. a brush fire in alameda county temporarily shut down highway 580 in both directions this afternoon. the blaze started near north flynn road, about seven miles east of livermore. strong winds upped the fire spread rapidly, burning 60 ac s acres, even jumping across the highway at one point. fire crews had it contained in a couple of hours, though traffic was snarled for much of the

afternoon. no structures were threatened. the cause under investigation. a fire damaged a $1.4 million house in san jose this morning. it started in the garage and spread to the second floor of the home on timberview court. it happened around 4:30 this morning. the family was able to escape safely. but we're told all of their belongings were packed inside the garage that went up in flames. the red cross is now providing assistance. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. and the damage is overwhelming in moore, oklahoma. but many people took a break from the cleanup efforts today to celebrate. nbc bay area's jay gray reports on graduation ceremony and on all the help flowing in this holiday weekend. appreciate it. >> good to see you. >> reporter: for many, amendment means travel. this weekend, hundreds of volunteers have made the trip to moore. >> holiday weekend, you don't have to burn a vacation dame to come here. you know, it's one -- it's freebie. >> reporter: the work they're

doing is invaluable. >> it's amazing that -- the kindness and generosity of other people. i can't -- i can't even -- i don't know. there's no way that we could have done it. >> reporter: but piece by piece, with the help of strangers, they're putting their lives back together again. ♪ >> reporter: while a special group of survivors starts a new chapter in theirs. >> we've had incredible loss, but with you and for you graduates, we will take the time to celebrate. >> reporter: saturday was graduation day for seniors if all three moore high schools. >> this day hasn't crossed my mind until this morning because it's just been a crazy week. so it really hasn't hit me that i'm graduating quite yet. >> reporter: there have been other more pressing things to deal with for this class that from the start has been forced to learn difficult, life-changing lessons. >> we entered moore schools in '99. so we entered with a tornado,

the federal government is investigating a freight train collision in missouri that injured seven people overnight. more than 20 train cars derailed. also a highway overpass collapsed when one of the train cars hit the support pillar. federal investigators said they'll be examining several factors to determine exactly what happened there. the chairman of the ntsb ne national transportation safety board is calling for transportation officials to carefully study the interstate 5 bridge and learn from it. the span collapsed without warning thursday sending two cars and a travel trailer into the water. no one died, but three people were hurt. hersman says her team will spend a week to ten days in the area looking at the bridge, talking to the truck driver whose

vehicle triggered the collapse, and examining maintenance documents and accident reports. nearly 3,000 runners joined boston marathon bombing victims today to finish the last mile of the race. the explosions near the finish line on april 15 killed three people and wounded more than 260. today's tribute event called "the one run" was a chance for survivors to cross the finish line together and to show the world that boston as a city stand strong. the one-mile ruin began with the national anthem and speeches. organizers say it was their opportunity to run the final mile they say was stolen from them. >> from physical injury or mental injury, from seeing thing that they should never have seen, this is a tribute to everybody. it's representative of everyone impacted by this. >> i have a desire to help out the local businesses. i have a desire to get over my fear of walking down boylston street with crowds. i think it's all positive for everybody. i'm happy to be part of it. >> despite the cold and rain today, it was a day of closure and healing for many runner, spectators, and emergency

workers. and coming up on nbc bay area news, an amazing finish at the ballpark today as the giants get a victory in rare fashion. and a bay area woman aim to make children affected by the oklahoma tornado feel like superheroes. we'll explain. [ birds chirping ]

a record number of students graduated from san francisco state university this afternoon. 8,738 students to be exact earned a degree this year. a crowd of more than 2,000 people gathered in cox stadium for the graduation. larry baier, president and ceo of the giants, delivered the keynote address. he encouraged graduates to learn from their failures and had this request -- >> finally, as you the gentlemanle our most challenging -- tackle the most challenging questions in society, put down your smart iphone, close your laptop, look up, look around.

the answers are in each other. [ applause ] >> he also encouraged graduates to listen to their inner voices. [ cheers ] san jose state university also held its graduation ceremony today. about 8,000 grads there. their family and friends packed the stadium this morning. the commencement speaker was philanthropist and educator connie laurie. she graduated from san jose state herself in 1964 with a degree in elementary education and psychology. a danville-based nonprofit sprung into action this week after hearing about the devastating tornados in oklahoma. we first introduced you to kiss the toad creations through our bay area proud series last year. barbara kasatos has been making superhero capes for children with terminal diseases. she saw how her artistic son responded -- autistic son responded to one she made him.

now they're making 100 capes for children whose schools or homes were destroyed. they got to work today at the danville women's club. >> a child going through a really tough time, if you can bring a smile to their face during a tough time, why wouldn't you do it? i mean, it's just something that everyone here is doing for the same reason. we love the kids. >> these capes are going to be for children to make them feel happy. >> the 100 capes made today are now waiting for sponsors. and sponsoring a cape costs only $30. you can find out how at kissthetoadcreations.com. >> and that little girl was pretty darn adorable. >> yeah. she was. all right. the weather was a little weird out there today for this time of year. what's going on, rob? >> yeah, cool. we're seeing a chance of maybe some rain, so these capes may become a little bit of a raincoat for some folks as we get to monday. 50s and 60s outside. 58 degrees in san jose. down to 53 in san francisco.

so quite cool and still windy out there. you see some of these areas in yellow and orange indicating wind gusts. inland still up above 25 miles per hour. these winds will slowly start to back off toward 9:00 tonight. clouds will continue to spill in, reinforcing what has been a cool start to the weekend. it's going to be an even cooler finish by sunday and monday. tonight, weak system goes by. should be just enough to provide a little lift to the low clouds and get us some drizzle or some light rain in a few spots especially near the coast. we'll show you that in our hour-by-hour forecast in a moment. the second system that we're watching arrives during the day on monday. this is going to bring a better chance of rain. and it does look like the rain chances have been increasing from model run to model run. we'll see, we'll get one more coming up at 8:00 and see if that continues to trend. right now, monday does look like we will see some rain across the bay area. tonight, we'll see some areas of low clouds, and what the futurecast is showing are areas of drizzle or briefly light rain near the coastline. then skies clear tomorrow afternoon.

breezy again, and then low clouds sweep back in around this time tomorrow night. monday is the interesting day. you see some of the rain moving out of the north bay. now moving through the entire bay area as we get into the evening. so scattered showers changing over to some moderate rain perhaps at times, especially for the north bay into monday and early tuesday. and then the transition will be tuesday afternoon. skies start to clear, things will turn breezy, likely staying cool through wednesday. then it's the second half of the week you'll see temperatures rebounding toward next weekend. so rain projections here for memorial day monday now getting a little more impressive. we could see more than a quarter inch for the north bay. this certainly would be enough to wet the ground in spots during the day on monday. now tonight we'll see low clouds, drizzle near the coast. 40s and 50s as we wait a minute up tomorrow morning. then high temperatures tomorrow continuing the trend we saw today. mostly 60s around san jose. should manage a few low 70s around south san jose toward morgan hill. around the east bay, numbers in the 60s for dublin, low 70s near

pleasanton, toward danville, 74 in fairfield toward the north bay. should see highs close to 70 in santa rosa. 60 in san francisco, and 50s on the coast if you want to find warm temperatures. head down highway 17 to santa cruz. we should see highs again tomorrow in the low 70s. notice the temperatures continue to drop, and it looks like raindrops will be falling, as well, on monday. especially for areas north of san francisco. tuesday, a lingering shower or two still possible. and then cool temperatures into wednesday. one more chance of some showers. north of santa rosa, that's going to be on wednesday. thursday and friday, skies will clear. and then the 80s come back as we head toward next weekend. so for those of you hoping for the unofficial start to summer, it's going to be next weekend. just doesn't look like -- >> skip it. >> yes. >> i think you should make the call had you feel the temperature is right, the condition are right. then we'll make the call. >> didn't work out for this weekend. >> thanks. let's bring in henry wofford of comcast sports now. it did work out for the giants

not enough to get out of the park, but that means it's time to start running, and i mean hard. he ran around the bases, rounding third. and yes -- inside the park, walk-off homer for angel pagan. the crowd went crazy out there. dramatic finish. giants win 6-5. we have more. >> reporter: it was an emotional day for the giants. manager bruce bochy was ejected from the game following a couple of questionable calls that were made. and just when it looked like the giants' comeback attempt would fall short, angel pagan stepped up to the plate in the 10th inning hitting his first walk-off inside-the-park home run, giving the team their 14th comeback win of the season. >> we've been doing a lot of comebacks, you know. good comebacks with, you know, five, six runs. and that's fun. you know, that means that we're really fighting, we're grinding

every at-bat, we're not giving up. that's good. >> very emotional roller coaster game. and -- you know, again, that would have been a tough one to lose because we -- like i said, a couple of critical calls didn't go our way. that's all about bouncing back. and they -- they found a way. >> sometimes in batting practice when they hit a monster ball it doesn't go out. i yell, "that's an inside the parker." to his credit, when the ball is hit, i think in his own mind he felt, yeah, this could be an inside the parker. >> reporter: pagan's inside-the-park walk-off home run was the first by a giant since 1931 when bill terry hit one against the cubs, giving them the win 2-1. at at&t park, nbc bay area. >> reporter: thank you. over to the ice where the sharks are less than 24 hours away from game six against the defending champs, l.a. kings. there is good news as it appears adam burge could make his series

debut sunday. no matter who's in or who's out of the lineup, the sharks know it's time to win or go home. >> there isn't a guy who sits in this locker room and was happy with the game. collectively, if everybody gets back to on par or take their game up a little bit, we'll naturally be better. >> when you feel pressure, you know you're still playing. guys sitting at home, on vacation, having no pressure, not feeling so good i assume. you know, you want to play good, and you assume you're going to play good. it will be exciting tomorrow. >> it's definitely not an uncomfortable feeling. not a lot of guys are flipping a lot in this team. we'll approach it like the season's on the line, as it is. expect us to be very desperate and play well. >> we'll look to have a good start at home. we know that the crowd will be energized and that will help us. i know it will. and from there we've got to even out the momentum and -- in the first period. they took it from us, and -- in
